wake up

the evening was grey
as the night sky came
warm summer air
cooled by the rain
drifted through
the sleeping flowers
mother nature
checking on her children
the stars were upset
the clouds were too thick
their light would not reach their friends
a sunflower looked high
sleepless nights
feeling alone
cold damp earth
and no light for her home
she asked the stars
for the light they shone
but that night there would be no help
the stars they screamed
and wailed with pain
for they wanted the flowers
to grow again
they begged the moon
to shine soo bright
to light the world and end the night
the moon she tried
but felt very small
that there was no way
she could cover it all
she howled at the clouds
to move away
but they were too tired
and needed to stay
in frustration she began to cry
and silvery moontears
dropped from the sky
the flowers swayed
and reached nearby
for the moontears falling from up high
the sunflower looked
wanting to try
when a moontear dropped
into her eye
she screamed aloud
unquestioning
for now all she wanted
to do was sing
of growth and life
and to stop the rain
to ask the sun to shine again
the breeze blew
and the clouds moved on
the moon and stars
faded at dawn
she sang aloud
and the sun he heard
following the trail
of a morning bird
he stretched and yawned
and rose above
to give the flowers all his love
